NAPLES — A Florida police department
found an unusual suspect “bearly” awake in an unfinished lobby on Friday.
Officers with the Naples Police
Department were called to Gulf Shore Boulevard North after a black bear was
found sleeping in a condominium lobby that was under construction.

“They said, you can’t.
It’s locked down. There’s a bear inside the building. So, of
course, I thought they were joking. And, they said no … he
wandered in from the beach. He was walking down the beach,
and — we’re doing construction, so a door was open,” Krakora
said. “He took a
swim in the Gulf earlier and obviously tired himself out!”
the police department posted on Facebook.
The Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission told NBC
affiliate WBBH that staff safely captured the 300-pound bear
using chemical immobilization drugs.
Resident Laurie Krakora told the news station that she had
just returned from an exercise class when she found out she
couldn’t get into her building. |

Staff members from a
condo next door said they captured video of the bear
swimming in the Gulf, then charging toward a person on the
beach before heading into the building.
No one was hurt.
