Miami Beach police arrested the president of a condominium association after they say he was accused of taking a tenant’s dreidel wreath from her apartment door last month.

Officers said they responded to a reported theft at the Presidential Condominium building at 410 Ocean Drive around 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 22.

According to police, the victim told officers she had Ring camera video showing 53-year-old Michael Rachid Bali taking a dreidel wreath from her front door.

They said the video shows Bali walking past the apartment, stopping, then grabbing the wreath from the door and walking away.

Officers said they recognized Bali as the president of the building’s condominium association and stated in his arrest report that they had received several calls about him from other tenants in the building.

Bali was later stopped by police during a traffic stop and taken into custody without incident on a charge of petty theft.

Detectives said Bali told them he took the wreath because he had previously told the resident multiple times that building rules do not allow items to be placed on doors.

However, the victim told police that she was never notified of any violation. She also said she wanted to press charges because the wreath was a family heirloom.

The victim added that she felt “targeted” because of her Jewish faith and that other residents have wreaths on their doors, according to the report.

Bali was not listed as an inmate on the Miami-Dade jail website as of Thursday afternoon. His bond information wasn’t immediately available.
