WINTER GARDEN — Residents of the Stoneybrook West Golf Community are upset after seeing their golf course close its doors.

  • Golf course at Stoneybrook West closed its doors in December

  • HOA says course did not tell group they were closing

  • HOA meeting to gameplan how to make a bid to buy the course

The Home Owners Association says the course didn’t even tell them what its plans were or that they were closing.

Sean Hooke who lives off the sixth hole of the golf course is now wondering what the closure means to homeowners like him.

“The reason we moved in to this community was the golf course," Hooke said. "It’s a beautiful golf course, along with the amenities with it, so it impacts us, especially if we live on the golf course.”

The course is listed in county records under the company Stoneybrook West Golf Club LLC and is connected to other golf courses in Central Florida. They are the ones homeowners are now trying to buy the course from.

The Stoneybrook West HOA is working up a bid, and Monday Winter Garden City Manager Mike Bollhoefer told Spectrum News 13, “We are watching what happens at Stoneybrook West closely. We would like to see the HOA buy it, and we will do our best to facilitate that process.”

The golf course closed in late December, but still receives maintenance despite no play being allowed on it.

"I have seen in Apopka, and in Clermont, and in Windermere where the golf courses shut down and it looks horrendous," Hooke explained. "I think the homeowners here I think are all trying to avoid that.”

Homeowners and the HOA are trying to act fast so the course can eventually reopen and fill up a tee sheet once again.

The Stoney Brook West Golf Club HOA is meeting Monday night to game plan how to make a bid to buy the course and hope to have the issue resolved within 120 days.
