Security First Insurance is
lowering homeowners insurance rates by an average of 5.6%, the latest in
a series of rate decreases the Florida-based company has made over the
last two years.

"Our customers are seeing the impact of
our rate decreases," Melissa Burt DeVriese, president of
Security First, said.
Insurance companies have been reducing rates or holding them
stable as more companies cite a reduction in lawsuits from
state reforms.
"All those savings we're required to pass along to
customers, and we have been," Burt DeVriese said.
Security First also announced new discounts and a
disappearing deductible that rewards claims-free customers
by reducing their deductible over time.
"Over the course of five years, every year your deductible
goes down 20 percent as long as you don’t have a loss; once
you have a loss, the discounted deductible applies, and then
it resets back to the full deductible amount, so it rewards
consumers who don’t have losses."

Based in Ormond Beach, Security First has about
155,000 policies in the state.
"Security First is committed to writing more policies in southeast
Florida," Burt DeVriese said.
Premiums in South Florida generally run high, and online firm Insurify
reports that in 2026 Florida homeowners pay the highest average premium
in the country at $8,292.
State insurance regulators said that with more companies and more
competition, homeowners should seek better premiums by shopping around.
