This week we are blogging about term-limits for condominium board members. Since the Florida legislature added three years ago a provision to FS 718 calling for an 8-year term-limit for board members, a serious fight is raging over the interpretation of the law. Police: HOA president stole thousands of dollars from community to buy stamps, lawn equipment
Over the course of three years, a former homeowners association president stole $20,000 from the community he served and used the money to expand his stamp collection and buy lawn equipment, according to the Titusville Police Department. Brett Rowe, 51, was named HOA president of Shady Oaks Pine in 2017 and records show at that time, there was about $21,000 in the HOA’s Bank of America account.
  
Florida’s ban on evictions has expired. What now for tenants who are months behind on rent?
Gov. Ron DeSantis has finally allowed his moratorium on residential evictions to expire, six months after it took effect on April 2. In a statement released late Wednesday afternoon, DeSantis noted that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently imposed a nationwide order that forbids eviction of tenants who submit a declaration to their landlords and attest that the COVID-19 crisis has left them unable to pay their rent.

A Fort Myers couple is looking for answers after they say their homeowners association removed part of their home without their approval. The couple is now desperately trying to figure out what they can do. For John Plowy and his wife, Susan, retiring in their Timberwood Village II condo was something they had been looking forward to for the past 15-years. "[It's] what we waited for and worked hard our whole lives for — to be at this stage of our lives, we just newly retired,” said Susan Plowy.

2 Broward Lawyers Face Criminal Charges for Alleged Fraud Involving Foreclosed Properties
The Broward Sheriff’s Office has arrested two attorneys who allegedly defrauded victims out of nearly $750,000 over two years as part of a sophisticated fraud involving foreclosed real estate. The two attorneys, Rashida Overby, 46, and Ria Sankar-Balram, 40, each have their own private practices, with the former in Tamarac and the latter in Margate. They are facing several charges, including an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft and money laundering, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
   
Miami-Dade County approves new condo, homes on Fisher Island
The Miami-Dade County Commission approved plans for a new condo and single-family home community on Fisher Island, one of the wealthiest ZIP codes in the United States. Par 7 LLC and Fisher Island Holdings, both managed by Heinrich von Hanau, were approved for a 57-unit condo and 12 single-family homes, all of them designed by architect Kobi Karp. Developer von Hanau and Karp also teamed on the new Palazzo Del Sol and Palazzo Della Luna luxury condos on the island.
    
Dust from 20-foot mounds of dirt irritates residents at community west of Lake Worth Beach
The golf-course conversion at Fountains Country Club is off to a rough start. Twenty-foot tall mounds of dirt are scattered throughout what was once a fairway on a shuttered nine-hole golf course adjacent to 180 condominiums at Trevi Court, a section of the Fountains west of Lake Worth Beach. Aside from the construction eyesore, the main problem is dust from the mounds coat windows, cover cars and get into the lungs of residents.
