Four people were hurt and a car was crushed when a second
floor balcony fell from a Miami Beach condominium.
It happened about 10 a.m. Sunday at a two-story building
along the 8400 block of Harding Avenue, according to Miami Beach Fire
Department officials.
No one was inside the Chevrolet Cavalier that had a flattened roof from the
balcony collapse, but witnesses told reporters that one of the four people
hurt was a woman whose leg became trapped after she fell.
“The lady was stuck in the balcony under the car, her leg was stuck there.
It took 20 minutes to get her out of there,” witness Carlos Borelli told
WSVN-Ch. 7.
Another woman and two men were also hurt in the collapse and taken to area
hospitals.
All four people, described as in their 40s to 50s, were on the balcony when
it fell, rescue officials told WPLG-Ch. 10
Inspectors from the Miami Beach Building Department have declared the unit
holding the balcony unsafe, the station reported.
The two people who own the car that was crushed told WSVN they had recently
moved to South Florida from New Jersey and the vehicle was their primary
means of transportation to their new jobs. |
