SUN CITY -- Multiple residents of a Sun City retirement community were displaced Thursday evening after ceiling collapses in several units.

  • 7 residents in four condo units at the Aston Gardens Retirement Community were forced out
  • No injuries after ceilings gave in

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, seven residents in four condo units at the Aston Gardens Retirement Community were forced out of their homes around midnight after the ceiling cave-ins.

Firefighters evacuated the entire building and continued their investigation.

It was found that a contractor has been working on the roof of the building and Wednesday evening's storms lead to water entering the attic.

Water saturated insulation and drywall ceiling of the four units causing the drywall to collapse inside the 4 condos. Three other condo units inside the building were evacuated out of caution.

The complex and contractor have made lodging arrangements for the displaced residents.

There were no reported injuries.
