COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida woman said she tried to protect herself from an abusive relationship and has been ordered out of her house.

Domestic abuse victim Marie Lee said she’s sustained many injuries, including black eyes, a bruised jaw and a busted mouth. “This has been going on for years,” said Lee. “I’ve had my nose broken, I’ve had my ribs cracked, my left ribs broken.”

On March 29, Lee said she was roughed up again. That’s when she called police. “I got tired of being hurt,” she said. “and I didn’t want to be hurt anymore.”

A judge granted Lee a restraining order against her husband.

The husband left their Wynmoor condo in Coconut Creek.

Lee made her homeowner’s association aware of the restraining order. “I showed them the order and said, ‘You can’t just let him in. He cannot have copies of the keys.'” said Lee.

According to Lee, she received a letter a week later stating she had 15 days from the date of the letter to vacate her home.

Wynmoor is a community for those over the age of 55. Lee is 47 years old and her husband is 56 years old.

According to the association’s bylaws, since Lee’s name is on the mortgage, she must leave. “I have nowhere else to go,” said Lee. “We have no family here.”

“It’s unconscionable that they would go to these lengths, when she hasn’t committed any infraction,” said James Potts Sr., Lee’s attorney.

Lee’s attorney said he knows there are other men and women under the age of 55 living in Wynmoor.

“Why should I be punished because he hit me?” asked Lee.

The Wynmoor association and their lawyer declined to comment.
