DEERFIELD BEACH -- Two Deerfield Beach residents lost their condominium to a fire when power was restored after Hurricane Irma on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Just south of the Palm Beach County-line, Broward County Fire Rescue crews responded to a call for a fire at 4:21 p.m. on the 600 block of Northwest 47th Street, just south of Hillsboro Boulevard between Military Trail. Firefighters were able to control the fire and stop the flames from spreading to any other residences.

No one was injured but Broward County Fire Rescue Spokesman Mike Jachles said the house was “completely gutted” due to the fire.

Jachles said the man and woman who live at the condo lost power during Hurricane Irma and went out for a swim Tuesday. While they were out, their power was restored. Jachles said investigators traced the fire back to the stove in the kitchen.
