Surviving Jacksonville sister shot in face sues suspect, condo association and security company

JACKSONVILLE - The surviving sister who Jacksonville police said was shot in the face by Chad Absher is suing him, the association for her former condo complex and the security company working there.

Action News Jax told you on Halloween 2017 when the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Absher gunned down his ex, Ashlee Rucker.

JSO said her sister, Lisa, survived being shot.

The new lawsuit, filed by Lisa Rucker and her father, Roger, targets Absher and the place where the happened, saying it didn’t do enough to protect the family.

Action News Jax caught up with Lisa Rucker last year, at her sister’s grave.

“I’ll wipe off the dirt or the dust, usually get bitten by the ants, and I feel like that’s her,” Rucker said.

At that time, Rucker told us she supported the death penalty.

“(Absher) tried to kill two people in front of their children and succeeded with one, so I don’t think he should be alive right now,” she said.

The lawsuit names the Cedar Creek Landing Condominium Association and Vector Security, which provided services there. It states both allowed Absher to get to the sisters' unit that night, for what the suit calls “failures with the gate and video surveillance system.”

The lawsuit also states the phone system to allow first responders to contact the sisters didn’t work.

The suit is for damages exceeding $15,000.

But still, Absher is Rucker’s main focus.

“I can’t wait for him to get what he deserves,” Rucker said.

Vector Security would not comment on the lawsuit.

Action News Jax hasn’t heard back from the Cedar Creek Landing Condominium Association.

Court records indicate Absher’s trial could start as soon as March.
