PANAMA CITY BEACH — Panama City Beach building officials have ordered the evacuation of a beachside condominium after an inspection.

The order came Thursday for the Calypso Tower III and gave residents until 8 a.m. Sunday morning to vacate.

“On Thursday night, February 8, 2024, the city received a concerning report from Slider Engineering Group, Inc., following a structural inspection of all guardrails in Calypso Tower III,” city officials wrote in a letter to the condo owners. “The findings reveal significant structural integrity issues, particularly with the guardrails on the east side of the building (facing the garage). The report categorically states that these conditions pose an immediate danger to the health and safety of all occupants.”

Officials added that the inspection along with the city’s codes forced them to make an “unavoidable decision.”

“This decision, though difficult, is made with your safety as our utmost priority,” officials wrote. ” Currently, the 21st floor is the only floor that does not require evacuation.”
