A man without a contractor license is facing multiple fraud charges after authorities say he took more than $20,000 from Naples condominium owners for hurricane windows that were never installed.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Allen Rodriguez, 29, took deposits from five condo owners between January and April 2022, claiming he would purchase and install impact windows. Instead, investigators said he kept the money and used it for personal expenses.

Rodriguez, who operated a business under the name MCR Construction Pro, was not licensed as a contractor in Florida at the time, detectives found.

He was arrested June 16 in Charlotte County on unrelated charges and remains in jail awaiting extradition to Collier County, where he faces charges of fraud involving property worth $20,000 to $50,000 and a scheme to defraud.

“This case is a terrific example of our detectives’ persistence and commitment to protecting Collier County residents from fraud and holding accountable those individuals who take advantage of others,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.

Residents are reminded to check a contractor’s license and insurance before agreeing to services. Consumers can verify licensing on the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s website at   MyFloridaLicense.com .

Rodriguez remains in custody with a hold placed by the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

In June, Gulf Coast News also reported that Rodriguez was accused of violently attacking a woman with a metal Stanley cup.
