BAY COUNTY – The state’s tougher structural integrity inspections have caught up with one of the beach’s older condominium units.

The Dunes of Panama Phase-1 owners’ association sent out letters on Friday, informing owners and residents that all of the units in the building are subject to a mandatory shutdown.

The building was built on Thomas Drive in 1974.

On Oct. 1, 2025, structural engineers discovered structural safety concerns during repair activity and a subsequent engineering evaluation.

There were visible stress cracks on the walkways of the sixth and seventh floors.

They initially shut down those two floors and began repair work. Further evaluation deemed the entire building was unfit for occupancy because of the walkways.

The letter states that the conditions pose a serious life safety risk and require full restriction of use until remediation is complete.

The shutdown is effective on Nov. 24th, but we believe everyone has already vacated the building.

Repairs are expected to take about six to nine months before residents can return.
