PUNTA GORDA -- A woman is accused of stealing over $7,000 from her
neighborhood's homeowners association in Punta Gorda.
|
According to the Charlotte County
Sheriff's Office, on Sept. 25, deputies responded to a
report of money being taken from the neighborhood's HOA bank
account.
According to the CCSO, Deborah Englert, treasurer of the
Social Club HOA, had withdrawn funds from the HOA's account
without authorization.
The complainant told deputies that the bank had contacted
her directly and expressed concern over suspicious activity
in the HOA account. The bank said that two checks, one in
the amount of $3,500 and one in the amount of $4,000, were
made out to Englert and signed by her.

The complainant said that the checks were unauthorized, and that Englert had
filled them out herself, the CCSO said.
Deputies spoke with Englert, who said she was aware of the situation due to
being informed that she had been removed as treasurer.
Englert was arrested Monday and faces a charge of grand theft.
