RIVERVIEW — Nearly nine months after Hurricane Milton tore through the Tampa Bay
area, some families in the Moss Landing community said they’re still driving
over a temporary patch where their only access road collapsed.
|
“As you can see there is nothing stopping
you from going in so it’s very concerning and very
dangerous. I am concerned when I drive over this makeshift
bridge, that I could fall in,” resident Nicolette Thorton
said.
The washout happened during the storm last fall. Since then,
Hillsborough County crews have filled the hole with dirt
multiple times, but neighbors said the barricade has fallen
and they still don’t feel safe.
“This is what we drive over every day,” Anna Dilone said.
“We thought it was a sinkhole, but it ended up being a
washout.”
The road remains the only way in and out of the
neighborhood.

“We are afraid that one of the kids or the animals might jump into that hole,”
Dilone said.
8 On Your Side reached out to the homeowners association. In a statement, the
HOA said it “immediately took action to repair the road to a drivable condition
following the hurricane” and is now “in the process of securing funding needed
to complete the permanent repairs.”
With hurricane season underway, residents worry the next big storm could cause
even more damage before those repairs are made.
“It’s just rocks and dirt and it’s going to be a catastrophic site,” resident
Benito Torres said.
