The Florida Legislature has allocated $280 million in funding that will go to inspections and grants of up to $10,000 to help residents make storm-related upgrades and qualify for property-insurance discounts.

Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis and in order of priority:

  • Low-income homeowners age 60+

  • Low-income homeowners

  • Moderate-income homeowners age 60+

  • Moderate-income homeowners

To be eligible, the homes must be a single-family, detached residential property or a townhouse. The owner must be living there, and the home insured for $700,000 or less. Low-income homeowners are exempt from this requirement.

The first step of the program would be to apply for a free, no-obligation wind-mitigation inspection, and then apply for a wind-mitigation grant.

As of July 1, homeowners are able to apply for My Safe Florida Home, a popular home-hardening grant program that could help residents cut property-insurance costs.
