According to investigators, Tampa Fire Rescue crews,
responding to a fire at the Sheridan Woods Condominiums at 3352 W Wyoming
Circle around 10 p.m. found smoke and flames coming from the roof of one of
the eight units in the building.
Residents told crews they saw lightning strike the roof of the vacant condo
around 8:30 p.m., causing a power surge that knocked out power, and a
resident called 911 a short time later after noticing smoke and flames
coming from the nearby unit as she was leaving for work.
The unit that was struck is on the east side of the building, fire officials
said, and the fire spread to a second unit.
Both units were vacant, fire officials said, and residents in the remaining
units were safely evacuated.
The fire was contained in about 40 minutes, fire officials said, and damage
was contained to the two units.
No injuries were reported.
